The Justice and Peace Desk under the Catholic Diocese of Karonga has condemned Karonga Central Constituency aspirants closed-door campaign meetings which are taking place in the district.
Following the death of former Member of Parliament for Karonga Central Constituency, Dr Cornelius Thomson Mwalwanda of Malawi Congress Party on 16th July this year due to Covid-19 pandemic, the constituency has no representative in the parliament.
In an interview on Monday CCJP Project Officer, Obert Mkandawire says it is too early for the aspirants to start campaigning for the position because the constituency is still mourning for the death of the former Member of Parliament who passed on recently.
Mkandawire said the desk is very worried with such behavior as some aspirants are already campaigning for the by-election without the approval of the Malawi Electoral Commission regarding when the election will take place.
